Nigiri Tamago is a traditional sushi dish featuring a sweet, fluffy Japanese omelette (tamago) delicately placed atop a bed of perfectly seasoned sushi rice. Known for its light and slightly sweet flavour, tamago offers a delicious contrast to the savoury rice, making this a comforting and satisfying option for both sushi lovers and those new to the cuisine.
How it is made
Our Nigiri Tamago is made with a traditional Japanese omelette, prepared by slowly cooking beaten eggs mixed with a touch of sugar, soy sauce, and mirin, resulting in a soft and layered texture. The tamago is sliced into tender, golden pieces and placed over a hand-formed ball of sushi rice, which has been seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. The tamago is typically secured with a thin strip of nori (seaweed) to hold the nigiri together, creating a visually appealing and flavourful bite.
Where it is sourced
We use fresh, locally sourced eggs to make our tamago, ensuring a light and fluffy texture. The sushi rice is imported from Japan, selected for its perfect consistency and subtle flavour that complements the sweet tamago. The nori used to secure the nigiri is also sourced from premium Japanese suppliers, providing an authentic and traditional touch to the dish.
Flavour profile
Nigiri Tamago offers a delicate balance of sweet and savoury flavours. The tamago itself is slightly sweet and soft, with a light, fluffy texture that melts in your mouth. The seasoned sushi rice adds a subtle tang and mild savouriness, while the nori strip adds a hint of saltiness. Together, these elements create a harmonious bite that is both comforting and flavourful, making it an ideal choice for those who enjoy a lighter sushi experience.
